"I would really like the chance to play on offense in college," said Harding. "Illinois just started talking with me as a possible slot receiver and I sent them my film and visited there on Saturday.
"The trip was cool and I liked it there a lot. The coaches are nice and I had a chance to speak with wide receiver coach (Billy) Gonzales. He took a lot of time with me and I took that as a positive sign. I also spoke with coach (Alex) Golesh if he watched my film. He said he liked what he saw and already knew I was fast."
Harding showed off his speed at several camps this summer running a 4.33 and 4.38 forty times at Ohio State camp while also posting several times in the 4.4 ranges at several other camps earning offers from Toledo, Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio), and Ohio as a defensive back and Buffalo as a receiver.
This past season Harding also showed off his defensive skills with 72 tackles (8 for loss and 2 sacks) with 14 pass break-ups and two interceptions he returned for scores. During his high school career Harding totaled 102 career touchdowns and 5,121 rushing yards.
Saturday's visit with Illini was a positive one for the Dayton (Ohio) Christian product as he saw several things he liked.
"I didn't really get a chance to see the campus and if they offered me I would definitely take an official visit to see more. But as for football I liked everything I saw as they use the slot a lot in their offense.
"One of the things that has stuck with me since the visit was coach Gonzales saying he didn't just want guys who have great athletic ability, he also wants guys with great character and I feel I fit that very well."
