Monteroso Picks Boilermakers

St. Clairsville (Ohio) senior wide receiver Dan Monteroso talks about his commitment to Purdue.

New Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell was able to go into Ohio and pull out an athletic, productive 6'3, 180-lb wide receiver in Dan Monteroso who lead his St. Clairsville High squad to a state title this year.

Previously committed to Boston College, Monteroso opened things up and took an official to West Lafayette and chose to commit a week after.

"Coach Hazell made me and Coach Sherman were my main reasons for choosing there," he said. "They're a great group of coaches there. I liked it and felt that's where should I be."

While he is happy with his commitment, Monteroso admits it was a tough decision.

"It was because I wanted to do it right. I didn't want to mess up and make the wrong decision twice. I wanted it done with once I decided."

The Boilers plan to continue to air it out even with the new coaching staff and that style of offense was also very attractive to Monteroso.

"They told me to come in, be ready, and play. I know they hired their offensive coordinator from North Carolina and I knew he liked to throw it around."

At the controls of that attack will be fellow class of 2013 recruit Danny Etling, a highly regarded quarterback from Indiana.

"I met him while I was on the official. Coach is supposed to give me his number so we can talk and get to know each other since he's probably going to be my quarterback for four or three years."

That's what he has to look forward to, as he no longer has to worry about recruiting and can simply focus on his future.

"I'm really excited just to get it over with and continue with basketball season." Recommended Stories
