“I went there yesterday to watch a work-out and I was totally blown away; I knew for sure that I had to be a part of that” said Austin Giles on Friday afternoon.
Most BC fans have been in a tizzy over Austin wanting an offer from Michigan, would that have swayed him?
“Michigan was a childhood favorite, they showed no interest and I’m happy with my decision. If they did offer I would’ve looked at them and I would’ve thought about it for a little while, but BC would still have been my choice.”
What was the Giles family's reaction, or did they know it was BC?
“They didn’t know but they are very happy, we are all BC fans here.”
Who was responsible for recruiting Austin for Boston College?
“It was mainly coach Jerry Petercuskie.”
I asked Giles the following question: "Obviously you excel on both sides of the line, have the BC coaches mentioned where they’d like to see you at?"
“They told me when I get there they would decide, I am more of a defensive guy so I favor the defensive line," said Giles. "I get excited about playing “D”.”
What is Giles doing now to get prepared for the season?
“I’m working out, running, and doing speed training.”
What kind of player can the Boston College fans expect to see with Austin Giles?
“I give 110%, I go full go all the time. I am a total team player I try and get the most out of my teammates, if they’re down I try and pick them up.”
Giles had offers from Boston College, Mississippi State, and D-1AA Northeastern, he was receiving interest from Notre Dame, Penn State, and Syracuse. Austin has a 2.9 GPA and has scored 1160 on the SAT.
With the commitment of Giles the Eagles now have six verbal pledges for the class of 2005 DE Joshua Williams, LB/S Paul Anderson, LB/TE Jim Ramella, S Marcellus Bowman, and LB Mike McLaughlin.
