ACC Move Paying Dividends

The Eagles have received four early verbal commitments thus far, which marks their best start to the recruiting season in recent memory.

Earlier this week the Boston College coaching staff received word that verbal number four had come their way.

Ramsey (N.J.)Don Bosco Prep wide receiver Ryan Lindesey (5-8, 170, 4.29) ended his recruitment early on Monday, as he made a verbal pledge to the Eagles.

"Today I spoke to Head Coach [Tom] O' Brien, and Offensive Coordinator [Dana] Bible," said Lindsey earlier this week.

Lindsey is very happy, and can list a number of reasons as to why he chose the Eagles over offers from Rutgers and Kent State, and interest from Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Michigan State.

Among the reasons he listed for wanting to play at BC, foremost among them was the fact that- starting in a mere 20 days- the Eagles will be members of the Atlantic Coast Conference and no longer in the Big East.

Lindsey visited Chestnut Hill 3-4 months ago, and is planning another trip in the near future.

"I'm going up there on (6/20)to visit, and our team is going up for a 7-on-7 camp," Lindsey said.

Lindsey joins James McCluskey, Jeff Smith and Thomas Claiborne in the recruiting class of 2010.

Perhaps it is a combination of an abundance of local talent, or perhaps Coach O'Brien and his staff are working extra hard to shore up their recruiting for the ACC, but the move to the Atlantic Coast Conference is already paying dividends.

James McCluskey's Coach Peter Flynn indicated that the move to the ACC was a major reason why the Massachusetts standout selected the Eagles over interest from a number of other programs.

With plenty of scholarships to use this year, and a number of top players on their radar, it will be interesting to see how the Eagles' move to the ACC and their performance in their first year will affect recruiting. As we will chronicle in the coming months, the 2005 Eagles have a chance to do something special in their ACC debut.

The coaching staff is well on their way to a very solid recruiting season, and the move to the ACC is a major reason why.
