Unamused Ramsay Talks Recruiting

Lawrenceville Prep recruit Devon Ramsay had already committed to Boston College. He was under the impression, from what former head coach Tom O’Brien had told him, that he would play running back for the Eagles. | |||

But Jeff Jagodzinski and his staff didn’t see it that way. Because of Ramsay’s size (6’2”, 242 pounds), the new staff thought he was better suited to play defensive tackle. “I was pretty upset,” Ramsay said. “I felt like they insulted my athleticism. I thought playing defensive end or even linebacker would have been reasonable.” Ramsay got the disappointing news from BC on January 15th and immediately started looking elsewhere for a school that would allow him to play his desired position. “I didn’t even try to argue with them,” he said. “I started shopping around and then told them [I was no longer committed].” Since then, Ramsay has been keeping busy trying to find the right place. He believes his underrated speed (reported 4.6 40) will attract another ACC school or two. “I’m going to Maryland this weekend and I just got back from UNC,” he said. “[The UNC visit] went very well. And I’m really interested in Maryland. I’m pretty impressed with their facilities. “Right now UNC and Maryland are at the top.” When asked where BC stood on his list, Ramsay listed the Eagles fourth behind N.C. State, where O’Brien took over head coaching duties. With Signing Day approaching rapidly (next Wednesday) and with a visit to one of his top schools on the horizon, the chances of BC making at run at the embittered prospect are slim. “I’ll probably make my decision either [next] Wednesday or Thursday, you guys can come down if you want,” Ramsay said with a hint of sarcasm. |
