Interest Picks Up For Andrew Tallman

Andrew Tallman is one of the more interesting prospects in New England. At 6'6" and 250 he projects at a number of positions. He may be one of the best athletes in the region. But, he only played in two games last season and that has caused most schools to take a wait and see approach.

Andrew Tallman currently has two offers, but is hoping for more as he begins to get into the recruiting process. With the May evaluation period in full swing and the summer just a month away, Andrew is beginning to get serious with his recruiting.

"I get mail from Maryland, Duke, Stanford, Rutgers, Syracuse and Iowa. So far I have two offers, UNH and Virginia. The Virginia offer is pretty big. I was down there for a visit two or three weeks ago. They offered me so I went down to see the campus and the coaches. Ron Prince is recruiting me and I got a chance to meet him."

Missing all but two games last season is one factor that is holding up more offers. The other is he is somewhat new to the area.

"I'm originally from New York, about an hour north of Syracuse. I moved here about two years ago. I live with my brother right now. The football here is tougher here than back in New York, but I play in a different league here, too. So, the skill level is different."

As far as where he projects at the next level, most schools are thinking defensive end or possibly offensive line.

"Schools are looking at me at offensive line and defensive end. Virginia is looking at me as a defensive end or even a linebacker. Boston College is looking at me at defensive end. "

With a number of schools interested in seeing him at camp with the possibility of extending an offer, Andrew is thinking about the factors that are important to him in his college options.

"Location is a key. I'd like to stay in this area or close to it. Academics are the key. I want to go to a good school. I go to a good school now and I want to continue that in college. I don't know what I want to major in or anything like that, but I want a good school."

BC is one of the schools interested in seeing Andrew in camp. There is also a connection that may play a role in his recruitment.

"I was at the spring game for BC. I liked it a lot. I liked the coaches. They are great and have a great knowledge of the game. My recruiting coaches coached my brother up at UNH, so we have a connection. Coach Dawson and Coach Devine coached my brother, he was a linebacker at UNH."

With two offers in hand, the summer will be about seeing other schools and attracting additional offers. Part of that is getting the attention of colleges who may not be aware of him.

"I'm going to do some camps and work on getting my name out there. I want to see some schools and talk to coaches. If I can go to some combines that may help getting my name out there too."

At this point there is no timetable for a decision. He may be at the BC summer camp or just visit during the summer. He has yet to settle on a camp list or a list of schools to visit over the summer.
