A new name on the recruiting scene is Alexander Amidon. The Connecticut wide receiver has three offers and is receiving interest from several big time programs in addition to those that have offered.
Alexander Amidon
is not a well known name in recruiting circles. The 6'0” wide out from
Connecticut
has been keeping a low profile as the recruiting process picks up for him. With three offers and several schools showing string interest, he is a prospect to watch going into the summer.
“Things are just starting to pick up for me.
Boston College
has said they may offer.
Tulane
has offered. UNH has offered.
Rutgers
and
Syracuse
both say they are going to offer. There are other schools that have called and sent letters.”
With interest picking up, Alexander is planning his summer.
“I’m going up to the BC camp. Coach Siravo is recruiting me and he wants me to come up to camp. Then I’m going to the Rutger camp. It is a one day camp so I will not have to stay overnight. I’m also going to the
Villanova
camp I’m going to UNH for camp.”
As an athlete, schools are primarily looking at him as a receiver, while some think defensive back.
“I’m a receiver and a corner back. I’m 6’0 175. I run under 4.5, but my best electronic time is 4.52. So, I can play receiver or defensive back in college.”
Speed is not what has college recruiters interested. It is his versatility that has drawn the most interest.
“At my school, I get to do everything. I was the only receiver we had last year so I played in the slot, stretched the field, ran the ball out of the backfield. I did a little of everything. In short yardage I was asked to come over the middle for short passes. On third and long I had to stretch the field. I played last year, my sophomore year as a quarterback. So, I have done just about everything so far.
“I guess I’m better at being a down the field guy, but I like going over the middle. I probably fit in best at receiver for that reason. I also play corner and have played safety. But, receiver is probably my best position.”
As far as recruiting interests, Alexander is taking it slow at this point.
“The schools I’d like to hear from are UNC and
Duke
. I have not heard much from them, but those are two schools that interest me because of their academics. BC is my top school right now. They have offered and they are the kind of school that I’m interested in. I’m at the Hotchkiss school and it is tough. I have a B average. I’m a little under the 3.0, but they consider it a B average. So, I want to go to a college where I can continue my education.”
