Sometimes the recruiting process can stretch out forever. In other cases it ends quickly. For Josh Bordner, it ended quickly when he decided to commit to Boston College. The Maryland QB got his offer over the weekend and decided to end his recruiting by giving his verbal pledge to the Eagles.

In the spring, several colleges picked up their recruitment of 6’3” Maryland quarterback Josh Bordner. That led to invitations to summer camps and the possibility of an offer. One of those schools was Boston College. The Eagles invited Josh to their first session, where he earned an offer.

“I committed Sunday night, around ten o’clock. I went up to their camp, the first session. I was there Monday through Thursday. I really liked it up there. The coaches seemed really interested. I got back and I got a phone call from my Mom telling me how some reporter got a call from my quarterback coach, who had been called by Coach Day like seven times trying to get in touch with me.

“I called Coach Day and he told me that they were going to make an offer. Later that night he sent me an e-mail saying we had to talk about things and we needed to talk in the morning. So, I just called him that night. Coach Day told me he was worried about me meeting with Coach Ralph Friedgen later that week. He was worried I might commit to Maryland.

“I just told Coach Day that I was not going to Maryland. I was done with recruiting and I wanted to come to Boston College.”

Josh becomes the fifth member of the Boston College recruiting class and the second quarterback. During the evaluation period, there was some question about where Josh would play at the next level. Some schools thought linebacker, others quarterback.

“I’m a quarterback and linebacker for my high school team. I’m more of a pocket guy, but I’m not going to force anything. If there’s nothing there then I’ll take off and make a play with my feet.

“At camp, I just worked out as a quarterback. They wanted to see how I did as a quarterback and that’s what I want to play. I like playing linebacker too, but I think I’m better at quarterback. BC wants me as a quarterback for them.”

Before last weekend, the plan for the summer was to visit schools and hit camps.

“I had other camps and visits scheduled for the summer. I went to Delaware before the BC camp. I really liked it up there, but they did not seem as interested as they did before I went there. I also went to Maryland. Now, I’m committed to Boston College. I’m done with recruiting.

“I’m pretty excited. Everything I hear about the school and the city is great. I really liked it while I was there.”

With recruiting over, Josh can now focus on his summer and his upcoming season. He will also have the chance to begin learning about his future team and plan some visits to Boston in the fall.

“I’m now just focused on getting ready for my season. We start fall camp in August and Boston College wants me to come up for a game sometime in September. So, now I’m just getting ready for football and enjoying my summer. “
