For many high school prospects, recruiting does not pick up until the fall of their senior season. Max Janoff is a good example. The New Jersey offensive line prospect has yet to get his first offer, but many schools are recruiting him. This fall will when those schools get a shot to see him in live action and decide whether to offer.
The recruiting season is divided into two halves. The first half is for the kids getting early offers and often making early decisions. The second half is for guys getting offers after they submit senior film to prospective colleges.
Max Janoff
is a second half prospect.
“I went to a combine when I was younger and just put down some schools. That was probably two years ago. I do play tackle in high school. So that's where the Internet sites had me listed, but schools are looking at me as a guard or a center. I'd say most schools think I am a center at this point.”
“As far as colleges, I'm getting the most interest from D1-AA at this point. Hoffstra,
Rhode Island
, UMass, Monmouth. I'm also hearing from some 1-A schools.
Boston College
, UConn,
Temple
and
Buffalo
are the four that I'm talking to right now. “
Depending upon how schools receive his senior film, FBS schools may increase their interest. One of those schools keeping an eye on Max is Boston College.
“I went to the Boston College camp and it is a great school. Obviously, I'd love to go there, but I don't know where I stand with them. At my size they may want someone bigger for the line, but I don't know what they are thinking at this point. One of my friends,
Colin Larmond
, plays there. I got to see him last year when they invited me up and he told me how much he loves it up there.”
In addition to interior line, Max has been working to expand his game.
“I have been working on my long snapping. I know that is a good way to make yourself more attractive to colleges. If you can snap as well as play the line that helps.”
For college, Max does not have a favorite, other than a desire to get away for school.
“Honestly, I was looking to get out of the northeast. I'm from Jersey and spent my life here. But, all of the schools interested in me are from the northeast. One of the schools that I really enjoyed was
Colorado
. We go out there a lot and I love the area. Other than that, I would just like to get out of Jersey for college.”
For now, Max is just getting ready for camp and waiting to see what happens in the fall.
“A lot of schools tell me they want to see film of my first four games. I'm not too worried about it right now. Obviously I'd like to have forty scholarships right now, but I have to be patient like most of the guys looking to play college ball.
“We start camp next Wednesday. At that point it is all team. I'm one of the captains and that has a lot of responsibilities. Our coach has a company that will video tape our games and put it together for us so we can send it out to colleges. So hopefully, after September I can start getting a sense of who is serious and maybe get some offers.”
