With the signing period right around the corner, basketball recruits are narrowing things down and…
Mayes Visits BC
"Yea I took my official visit the past weekend. Not the one that just passed, but the one before that. It was my first time and I really enjoyed it. The players were cool and the coaches were cool. It was a good experience. At BC I liked all of the players and the coaches. Everyone was cool. I think I'd fit in with their coaching scheme. I also liked that they don't put any pressure on guys. They just let guys play."
The Eagles have been involved with Jordin since the summer when they spotted him on the AAU circuit.
"They called me after seeing me on the AAU circuit. They were interested and they called me to talk about playing for them. They offered and I went out to see them."
The Eagles are not the only program recruiting Mayes. Many west coast programs have been in contact and offered.
"California, Utah, Fresno State, Colorado State, Washington State, Colorado, Nevada and some others have offered. Right now I'm still checking schools out and learning about the schools. I'm not ready to make a commitment or name favorites. If I feel right then I'll make a decision, but if I need more time then I'll wait."
Like most 2010 prospects, the summer was busy with tournaments and traveling. Now that the fall is hear, this is the time to check out schools as the high school season starts soon.
"There really is no time to take a break. Once summer ball is done it is time to get ready for the high school season. I work hard every day. I just got back from the gym when you called. In the summer, we traveled all over. We went to Colorado, Las Vegas and Cincinnati. Those were the big tournaments. There was a lot of coaches there. I did not pay attention to them, but the coaches were trying to get everyone's attention."
Listed as a point guard by Scout, Jordin is a versatile player that can shoot from the outside as well and penetrate and distribute.
"I'm a point guard first and a shooting guard second. I'm an all around guard, but I'm good at handling the ball and running the offense. I can shoot it from the outside too and drive on guys too. Ray Allen is my favorite player and the guy I model my game after. He can shoot from the perimeter and distribute and that's how I play."
At this point, Jordin is still checking out schools and has not narrowed things down. Location will not be a factor nor will a particular major play a role.
"I'm going to Utah this weekend. I'm not sure about other visits right now. I've been to Boston already. I'm not worried about location. If Boston College is the right place then I'm going to go. If it is somewhere else, then that's where I'm going to go. Location is not important. The thing about the schools is I want to see how I fir in with the players and how I fit in with the coaches. It has to be a good program where I could get the help to maybe play at the next level."
Scout has Jordin Mayes rated as the #30 PG in the country. The scouting report says he is a very heady point guard with excellent feel for the game. Average athlete, but makes great decisions with above average skill level. Potential high major prospect.
