Eagles edge Weber State

BC's opener was always going to be about Mark Herzlich. The cancer survivor returned and raised the spirits of everyone in Alumni Stadium. But after the euphoria of his return and BC's win died down, Eagle fans were left with many questions regarding the team.

Even with the mistakes, BC controlled the first half en route to a 38-20 victory. However, the lackadaisical second half was not pretty.

Four Factors

1. Dave Shinskie should have been much better.
The BC line gave him time and his pass catchers looked good, but Shinskie still made some bad decisions and some off-target throws. If he can't light up an FCS team, how will he manage against Virginia Tech or Florida State?

2. Kevin Pierre-Louis might be BC's next prodigy.
The true freshman Linebacker looks mature beyond his years and contributed throughout. If he stays on this path, he could be as effective as Luke Kuechly was as a freshman.

3. Johnathan Coleman looks like a veteran football.>
This was Coleman's first game at the college level and only his second season in pads. Yet he looks like a pro. He made tough catches in traffic and showed the speed to be a deep threat.

4. Mark Herzlich might not be 100% but this team needs him. Herzlich was still shaking off some rust but he will be needed by this team. BC has talent and a favorable schedule. What they showed today is that they lack a certain emotion and instinct to put a game away. Herzlich plays with his heart on his sleeve and as the season progresses, his emotion and football IQ will be needed to get this team to the next level.
