At 10:45 of the first half, the announced BC crowd of 7,149 saw what they came for: Sean Williams making his first appearance of the 2005-06 season for the Eagles.

Williams played only 12 minutes and scored two points as BC defeated Harvard, 89-55.

The Eagles were lifted by the return of their shot-blocking center, who recorded a pair of blocks on the night. They played what coach Al Skinner called the best 40 minutes of their season so far.

Jared Dudley and Craig Smith led the Eagles in typical fashion by scoring 16 and 14 points respectively. Sophomore center John Oates also contributed 8 points to go along with 10 boards, including a tip in at the buzzer ending the first half.

Freshman guards Marquez Haynes and Tyrese Rice had 13 points each and were a combined 10-12 from the floor. Rice and Haynes also dazzled the crowd all night. Rice went 3-3 from beyond the arc, and Marquez Haynes drove to the hole several times on plays that resulted in lay-ups.

The play of the night occurred with 4:40 left in the first half when Haynes slammed down an alley oop from his fellow freshman guard.

Coach Al Skinner commented on the return of Sean Williams in his post-game press conference.

"It is a relief to have him back because now this is our team, we’ve been lacking that," said the BC coach. "His personality is part of it, some of the intangibles that are important to your club are all in place, now we just have to work on it and make it work for ourselves.”

Skinner also commented on how the return of Williams gives BC the depth it needs to maintain a certain level of intensity for 40 minutes, which they did tonight.

Harvard was led by their freshman forward, Evan Harris, who had 18 points and 7 rebounds and junior guard, Jim Goffredo, who had 11. Harvard’s record falls to 8-4.

BC’s next two contests are on the road against Duquense on December 27th and Rhode Island on December 31st. The next home game is January 3rd against UMass.
