| At an April 2004 press conference at the Gampel Pavilion on the Storrs campus, Gordon announced he was making himself available for the NBA draft. In three seasons at the Big East school, Gordon scored 1,795 career points (16.9/game) -- no. 6 on UConn's all-time scoring list. He dished out 437 assists (4.1/game), UConn's no. 8, and pulled down 415 rebounds (3.9/game). Took over the school's all-time three-point lead with 246 career baskets.
During his junior NCAA National Championship season, Gordon averaged 18.5 points (#50 in the nation), 4.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds
per game and shot 43.4% from the field and 43.3% from three-point range (#18 in the country and #6 on UConn single season list). Gordon made 104 three-pointers as a jr., no. 2 in UConn history behind Ray Allen (115). He averaged 21.2 points in the NCAA Tournament and led the 2004 Tournament field with 127 points. Gordon was named to the Final Four All-Tournament team, 2003-04 All-Big East First Team and the NABC & USBWA First Team All-District I.
Started all 33 games as a sophomore averaging 19.5 points per game along with 156 total assists (4.7/game), both led the Huskies. Gordon also averaged 2.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He led the team with 62 three-pointers and shot 41.3% from long range for the second straight season, again No. 8 on the UConn single season list. He was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, the Basketball Times All-Northeast Region squad and the NABC & USBWA All-District I First Teams. Along with teammate Emeka Okafor, Gordon played with USA Basketball's Junior Team in the summer of 2003 at the Pan
American Games.
Gordon started two games as a freshman averaging 12.6 points per game, second highest for the Huskies. He also averaged 2.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game and led the team with 62 three-pointers, Gordon's 41.3% mark from three-point range was No. 8 on the UConn single season list. He was named to the Big East All-Rookie Team and the 2002 ConAgra Foods Big East Championship All-Tournament team.
Gordon was an all-State player at Mount Vernon (NY) High School. He was Westchester County Mr. Basketball and Player of the Year by the White Plains Journal News and the New York Daily News as a junior and senior. Gordon averaged 24.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 3.6 steals as a senior, shooting 53% from the floor, 39% from three-point range, and 80% at the foul line. Scored 1,756 points during scholastic career, passing six former NBA players (Scooter McCray, Rodney McCray, Gus Williams, Lowes Moore, Earl Tatum, Ray Williams) en route to the school record. Chose UConn in the summer of 2000 over Seton Hall, Cincinnati, Duke and North Carolina. |
