2005: Played in 11 games...recorded 53 tackles (32 solos) including seven tackles for loss and two sacks; ranked fourth on the team in tackles...also registered one forced fumble, one pass breakup and one blocked field goal...played on both sides of the ball, making his mark as the team's short-yardage back...carried the ball 21 times for 49 yards and a team-high six touchdowns...enjoyed two two-touchdown games - against Army and Virginia...scored perhaps his biggest touchdown of the season at Clemson, plunging into the end zone from one-yard out to give BC the overtime victory...made a season-high 11 tackles (five unassisted) against Virginia Tech; shared one tackle for loss.
2004: One of the most coveted recruits in BC football history, Toal lived up to his billing as a true freshman...played in all 12 games, starting the final nine...earned 2004 Big East Rookie of the Year honors...also gained Freshman All-America honors from The Sporting News...worked his way into BC's starting lineup by the fifth game and started the last eight games of the season...finished as BC's second-leading tackler with 77 (37 solos); also recorded 4.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, one forced fumble and one blocked punt...was named Big East Defensive Player of the Week after a career-high 15 tackles (12 solos, including two tackles for loss) against Rutgers.
High School: Played both linebacker and running back for the Ironmen ... played in the 2004 US Army All-American Bowl in the Alamodome in San Antonio ... was a two-time All-State first-team selection ... led Don Bosco to back-to-back NJSIAA Parochial Group 4 titles (2002 and 2003); took a screen pass 57 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of a 14-13 title-game victory over Bergen Catholic in 2003 ... rushed for 1,063 yards as senior; scored 32 touchdowns and recorded 194 points in 2003 ... made 106 tackles and 10.5 sacks in his final season ... his father, Greg, was his head coach ... also excelled on Don Bosco's track team; won the 100, 200 and shot put events at the league meet as a junior.
